Robin Sinichko K-1st Grade

I was born and raised in Northern California. I grew up woodworking, enjoying family camping trips, gardening, playing sports, and loving animals of all shapes and sizes. My summers were spent as a camper in a horsemanship program at an outdoor adventure camp in Buena Vista, CO. Eventually, I transitioned from camper to staff member, nurturing my love of the outdoors and learning first-hand the value of authentic nature-based learning. It was an environment that simultaneously challenged and supported children; they gained confidence as they overcame the physical challenges of peaking a 14er, heightened their sense of empathy as they cared for their horses, and developed a trusting community through regular teamwork.

After graduating from Tulane in 2012, I joined Teach for America to work in an at-risk school in rural northern Mississippi. Over the next two years, I learned a lot from my students and a great deal about literacy, the benefits of a strong classroom culture, and the importance of caring for the whole child. While in Mississippi, I adopted a cat, took up yoga, raised backyard chickens, spent vacations backpacking in Tennessee and Arkansas, and volunteered at a horse rescue. At the end of my commitment, I made the move to Colorado to re-center and reconnect with the mountain lifestyle.

I am thrilled to be joining the Running River team. This will be my third year as a classroom teacher and my first time teaching a combined K/1 class. I am grateful to be invited into a community that values experiential learning and collectively aims to “cultivate a vibrant sense of connection and responsibility to self, humanity, and the planet.” I believe that trust and appreciation is crucial to student success. I am eager to support, encourage, and learn from your children.
