Few things help an individual more than to place responsibility upon him and let him know that you trust him.

Our aim is for the children to know how to run the school! They are completely in charge of our chickens (raising them from hatchlings, building the chicken coop and tending to all their needs); plant, tend, sow and learn in our garden and compost; clean; cook; build; sew and any other life skills that we see need to be part of our curriculum. They learn to have healthy, caring, real relationships; problem solve in our all school democratic councils; be members of our student council; plan events and trips; make presentations regularly and have choices that reflect their interests and passions.

We truly educate the whole child not just for their future engagement with the world, but for right now, every day.

Cleaning out Aurora's cage (our Bearded Dragon) and then imitating her catching and eating a cricket.  Yummmm.
